Hello Kinder Friends,
I was kind of excited when I learned that there was a new bucket book coming out.
I started using How Full Is Your Bucket For Kids two years ago in my classroom. At first I was not sure if this would work for my classroom but I decided to give it a try. And here we are two years later and I am still using this in my class. So naturally I was excited to see that there is another book coming out in this series. So, I would like to offer you a little Bucket Filling Fun too. From July 13-14 new followers and old, if you leave a comment on this post I will use the random number generator to pick a winner of 1 Bucket book and my Bucket Filling Packet. I will pick the winner on the 15th. The new bucket book is in preorder status right now so it may take just a little bit longer to get your hands on it.
Here is one of my posts from the past on Bucket Filling...
We are moving right along and having a good time with our Classroom Community Bucket Filler! This is probably one of my favorite things in Kindergarten over the past few years. When I found the book How Full Is Your Bucket For Kids I knew I was going to give this a try.
I read the book several times last year as we were establishing our classroom community. My favorite addition on one of the readings was to add a visual element to the story as I read through the book.
The addition of the cups and water provided the children with a visual to help them see when buckets were filled and spilled throughout the story.
This year I was excited when a teacher friend let me borrow another bucket filling book. And I think this one is my new favorite!
In our classroom we fill a community bucket so actually we are working on a goal together. I find that this is much easier than having to keep up with filling buckets for each and every child in class. I wanted to be able to work on a goal as a team so that this activity could help us build a classroom community. I really like how we are all working towards something together and we learn that it takes each and every one of us to meet the goal so we learn to help and encourage each other as we fill our bucket. I have always started with a small bucket so that we could reach our first goal pretty quick. When we reach our goal as a class we decide how we will celebrate. We usually celebrate with a special activity. To me, a classroom bucket filling system works because I can't be tied down to filling 22 buckets all day long. What works for you? I hope you let me know!
I think this is a fantastic idea! Would love to try this with my class this year!
ReplyDeleteWould love to read this new book to my class. Love the old one, I have read it for a few years.
ReplyDeleteMy kiddos loved the first book. Can't wait to read the new one! We used pom-poms in a jar. LOVE your idea with the water cups!
ReplyDeleteI love this idea.
ReplyDeleteI love this idea. I need to do this this year.
ReplyDeleteI love this idea for building a classroom community and making it tangible for students! This was something I struggled with last year because I came in late, love this strategy for this year!
ReplyDeleteWe have done buckets for the past two years too. I use a chart with a bucket image and stickers as our reward. It helps with counting 1:1 too.
ReplyDeleteI am excited to do more with this bucket filling book this year!
ReplyDeleteI would love to use it this year with my first graders. This is a great idea! Thanks

ReplyDeleteThanks for letting us know about the new book!

I am a computer tech at an elementary school who loves to wander around on Pinterest and find ideas to helpful ideas for the teachers at our school. Kindergarten is such a milestone year, and we find that so many of our students have never been in a learning environment before. This could be great for our kinder staff! Thanks for posting
ReplyDeleteNew to Kinder and this is definitely something I will do with my kiddos! I love the idea.
ReplyDeleteWe have a community bucket too. The kids get to add Pom poms for bucket filling they see someone else do.
ReplyDeleteI used this in a kindergarten class of kids who have experienced too much trauma, loss, life for their age and it helps soooooo much!
I don't know why I haven't heard of this until now...this could totally make a huge difference and be a great addition to my classroom environment plan. Teaching kids how to and that they can take responsibility to make a difference in the world is powerful. Thanks for posting!! I look forward to finding out more about this idea!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to read the new book!
ReplyDeleteI have included bucket filling each year, but not as much as I wanted to. This year I am hoping to go full force. I can't wait for the new book!

Thanks for sharing! Need to do this with my classes.
ReplyDeleteI have done the bucket filling activity individually and by tables... now I'm inspired to try the community bucket. I like the idea of everyone being responsible for class behavior.
ReplyDeleteThis book would be the perfect addition to my classroom! We are in the beginning stages of becoming a Leader In Me school and our goal is to begin using bucket filling activities with the kids. We have already began this as a staff! Thank you so much for letting me know about how you do bucket filling in a classroom of over 25 kindergarteners! This is great!!!!!
ReplyDeleteLove the bucket filling books! Can't wait to see the new one.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of adding the visual element when sharing the book! My teammate fills buckets by table group - I do just the one bucket for the class. Can't wait to see the new book!
ReplyDeleteThis would be a great addition to my classroom! We are in the beginning stages of becoming a Leader In Me school and are adopting activities in bucket filling! We have already done this as a staff, but all classrooms will be doing this starting this school year! I am so glad that you shared how this will work in a classroom of over 25 kindergarteners! Thank you for sharing! I can not wait to get started!
ReplyDeleteI would love to add this to my book collection!

I have wanted to start a bucket filling system in my classroom. Your book and packet would be just what I need to start it with my new group of kinders. I would love to win! Lindsey4314@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteI used this with 2nd graders, but am moving to Kindergarten. I love the idea of showing a bucket being filled and spilled throughout the story. Visuals are great for Kindergarten.
ReplyDeleteI love and use the bucket system but find management hard.

I love the book, "Have You Filled a Bucket Today?"! I used it last year with my K-1 multiage class, and plan on using it again this year with my kindergarten group. I'm excited to check out the new book!
ReplyDeleteOoh! I'm teaching 1st grade for the first time ever after a 12 year hiatus from teaching and I've been looking for a positive incentive program to use. This looks wonderful! Thank you!

I would love to have the new bucket book in my classroom library. I can't seem to manage the time to do individual buckets. The community bucket works great!

Can't wait to to read the new bucket book!
ReplyDeleteLoved using Bucket Filers last year in K. Happy for a new book!!
ReplyDeleteThere is another Bucket filling book too. Can't remember the title but it explains what bucket filling is. I think it was the first book about bucket filling. The second book, Have you filled also explains about emptying someone else's bucket by saying unkind things to them. Also a great book! Thanks for sharing!

I love the community bucket idea! I had a principal a few years back who introduced it to me. I haven't used it in a couple of years. Would love to use your ideas!
ReplyDeleteI love your idea of filling community buckets! I'd love to use your ideas next year. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteLove the idea of a community bucket. This will be my first year teaching Kindergarten, I think I'll give it a try.

ReplyDeleteI love the idea of a community bucket. I have wanted to implement the bucket filling system in my classroom, but wasn't sure how to do it with individual buckets (management of all of the buckets!). Love your blog also! Keep up the great ideas!
ReplyDeleteLove this book!! Started using it last year and can't wait to expand and use the new a-z book!
ReplyDeleteLove the Bucket Filling lesson!
ReplyDeleteI have the book "Have you filled a bucket today?" but didn't know there was another one as well. That is awesome! I would love to win your packet so I could do more with the idea. We are always searching for inspiration in kindergarten for positive behavior! :) Andrea aaparsons@hotmail.com

We have a schoolwide bulletin board that shares how students are helping to fill the buckets in their classrooms. It highlights different good things students are doing throughout the month. I think it's great to focus on the good things they do. I have never read the books...I work with older students in my classes, but I go into K classes for enrichment. I would love to have a book to share with them.
ReplyDeleteI love the bucket filler program. I have used it in 2nd/3rd grade and hope to implement it with my kinders. I need this new book!
ReplyDeleteThanks for filling our bucket with a GREAT giveaway. I can't wait to get the new book. :)
ReplyDeleteLove your idea! Can't wait to use it in my classroom!
ReplyDeleteI love the idea! Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI love all of the bucket-filling books! Love your idea with a class bucket rather than individual ones! May try that this upcoming year. Thanks!

I would like to try this with my class this year! My daughter has been using it with her class for 2 years and loves it.
ReplyDeleteI am really excited that there is a new book! Would love to read it to my Kinders!
ReplyDeleteI love bucket fillers-I have the "Have you filled a bucket today?" book and we gave one of these books away in a service basket last year and it was a hit in my second and third grade class. This will be my first year in Kindergarten and I'm trying to decide if I should do bucket fillers as a class or as individuals. Any input?
ReplyDeleteThanks,
Mikki Bailey
This sounds marvelous!!! Thanks for sharing... I get to teach Kinder next year after being out of the classroom for 5 years, so I definitely need to check this out!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your system! I will be teaching Kindergarten this year and I find that your system is much easier than filling 22 buckets during the day. I had a friend do the separate buckets in her 3rd grade room. When I taught 4th I considered doing that, but just didn't want to spend that much time doing that throughout the day. However, your idea I will use. Thank you for the idea. I LOVE it so much.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the idea! I LOVE it and will implement it in my room this year. I know my kinders will LOVE filling a bucket as a whole class.
ReplyDeletenew year, new aide (with a more postive attitude!) new kids, new ideas. LOVE filling the bucket idea..
ReplyDeleteTorrijd
I love the bucket filling books - so happy to see that they are coming out with another. The A-Z concept looks like it will lend itself well to some group activities.
ReplyDeleteValerie
How fun! I don't have this book and would love to read it to my class.
ReplyDeleteLove the bucket filler book! I read it to my kindergarten class every year and would love the new book as well :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a simple concrete way for children to see the difference they can make each and every day! I teach 3-4's and this visual truly helps and encourages them to do good things and be responsible.
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited about a new book. I have used this in my classroom and the kids really like it.
ReplyDeleteI have wanted to try this but wasn't sure about using it with my special needs class...may try it anyway.
ReplyDeleteLove this book! We had it as an all lower school read 2 years ago. Each class joined in the pledge. Last year I tried the individual buckets! A lot of work. I agree with you. Will go back to community bucket this year. Thanks for the post. Enjoy your summer.
ReplyDeleteI am a loyal fan!
We got a new principal last year and she introduced this school wide and we all really liked it. :)

I really need to do this with my class. missmandy94@hotmail.com

I have been reading the bucket books in my classroom for a few years now and the kids really get it. It's so much more helpful than forcing a child to apologize for their mean actions by saying, "Oops...you dipped ___'s bucket. How are you going to fill it?" They really have to think about how they can make amends.
ReplyDeleteThese books will be great to build community in the classroom, hope I win!
ReplyDeleteWe fill a class bucket too!!! I use a sand bucket and Pom poms. The kids really get invested in it!!!!! I'm excited for this new book!!!
ReplyDeleteI had seen your 'new favorite' In a flier or somewhere. Now wish I would have bought it. I'm intrigued and interested now.
