A Poem In Your Pocket!

Hey Kinder Friends,
We have been working on poetry writing for a couple of weeks. We started out by reading poetry and discussing some of the elements of the poems we liked. The ultimate goal was for the children to be able to write their own short poems. We spent a lot of time reading poetry and creating short poems together. Within a few weeks, we were well on our way to writing short poems independently. And even when this writing focus had ended children would come up to me with a new one they had created.
As A Poem In Your Pocket Day began to approach in my school, I remembered that I had these on hand from a few years ago. For this mini school celebration we color our pockets and write a short poem on the back. When the actual day arrives, the children wear them on their shirts and if someone stops them in the hallway they read their poem. The kids are always excited to wear them because if they are asked to recite their poem they earn a snack pass.
I was so thankful to have these ready and on hand as the day approached. I didn't have time to search or create anything else. Sometimes it is the simplest of things that get the job done and do the trick. In the spirit of Teacher Appreciation Week, I am sharing this with you so that you have them saved and ready to go next April for Poetry Month.
