Alphabet Teacher Resources!

Hey Kinder Friends,
I am sure you are in your rooms and everything is going along just as you planned it. And you are not even thinking about another resource for your classroom unless you are like me. Before I shut my classroom door this summer, I took one last look around and paused at my alphabet line before I turned out the light. That alphabet line has been on my mind ever since that day. It was right up there on the top of my to do list. It is still one of the items not crossed off yet!

Don't think I haven't shopped around and seen some of the cutest ABC's around. I just can't make up my mind. I can't commit and I am ashamed to say it. Maybe it is because the ABC posters were one of the first things I hung up in the classroom when I became a teacher or maybe it is because it is such a functional piece within all classrooms that makes the choice hard for me. I knew an ABC poster set from a traditional teacher store would never work for me because I want a little versatility, coordination and some options. After a little thinking I realized that I wanted a set that included both blackine and colored versions for different reasons.

And when I did find one I wanted to display, would I want the posters in color or would I want them in blackline so I could print them on any color I wanted? And if I did want a color, what in the world would that color be? My mind just kept wandering... If I printed the blackline version, I could print the vowels on a different color. Or if I printed the color version, I could back the letters with colored construction paper. Every time I tried to decide on what to buy, instead I started thinking of what else I wanted the set to include. So I decided to make my own set that I could have on hand to use each year and print what I wanted just exactly how I wanted it.
Now I guess you could say I am a little closer to making up my mind. I have both color and blackline and all the resources math and coordinate. I know for sure I am printing those bla'ckline posters and making big books. I am printing the flash cards to use with games and small groups. I love how I will be able to print just as many sets as I want with a download instead of a single traditional store bought set. I know I am printing the ABC cards in color for school and blackline to send home. And I am printing books for home and take home folders too. Yes, school has started but life is just too short to live with ABC's that you don't just love. So I am giving myself a deadline to decide on color or blackline on colored paper for my big ABC posters. If you are on the fence about your ABC's why not change? Alphabet Rescue!

Hey Kinder Friends,
Right about now I need an alphabet rescue! I am sure you can relate. Thinking about letters at the beginning of school is what we all do. Can we ever get enough resources to use in class or send home with kids to practice? I seem to always need a little more. And I love things that serve as double duty for my kids. So one day I was thinking about an alphabet rescue and this is what I came up with.

You know in the beginning of Kindergarten every kid just wants to get their hands on the new supplies so Color And Write seemed to fit for the kids. We get that coloring itch out in the very beginning. My kids tell me they have never even once used a crayon until Kindergarten and it is a big deal! And you know one of my smallest goals this year is better handwriting with automaticity. So that when we become independent writers, someone can actually read it! So the Color And Write can serve up some double duty here. And last, I needed yet another go to resource that I could have on hand and print when I needed...in a flash!
Now I have a quick and printable resource that I can put in a center, make books with or send in take home folders or bags. And better yet, I have it saved on my computer and ready for the new kid who comes to school late and needs a little help.
I had to keep this alphabet adventure going because I was on a roll. Just one more! Every teacher knows kids need multiple opportunities to master something.

So there you have it!
From an alphabet rescue to adventure...wishing you the best year yet!

Highlight and Write!

http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Highlight-and-Write-1382008

Hey Kinder Friends,
Oh my, time is flying by... So much to do and so little time! I have spent a lot of time looking forward to the coming year and a little time looking back. One thing I remembered about last year was that a few of the children in my class really struggled with  proper letter formation. And this was very obvious when they started to emerge as independent writers. I spent quite a bit of time observing my class write and I did notice that when they were so involved in writing independently, their focus was on writing rather than letter formation as they worked. I knew this coming year I wanted to have more resources to have on hand so that I could conquer this problem once and for all. But what I wanted most was guided practice specifically for independent practice with the guided arrows. It was not easy to find. So I sat down and created my own. I wanted the children to have the opportunity to identify the letter and highlight the letter, trace the letter and write the letter.  And I wanted both uppercase and lowercase letters on separate pages. If I need to I can copy upper and lowercase front and back on the same page or print separately. Or I can print a few of these specifically for the children who need them and pop a few highlighters in a bag to send home. But most of all I was excited to have these on hand to put in a center at the beginning of the year! If you would like more information just click on the image above!
